The Truth

Though your friends are always there to help you

And they say they will never let you down,

Their truthfulness is one quality;

Their lies are hidden behind their frowns.

The help that is promised, you will never see

For they are not so inclined as to help

As you would wish them to be.

Are they your friends?

Lord knows, they’re not mine.

Though they may say they are our best,

We will know the truth in due time.

In the end, we are back to truthfulness.

It’s the one trait we can trust.

We are so eager to accept it

Much the same as lust.

So walk very carefully as you

Thread the soft ground.

You will never actually know the truth,

Unless of course, you can spot a frown.
